greetings from boston!
it's been 4 days since I left to begin my journey across america, and I’m starting to get excited (as opposed to anxious which is what I was up until now). :) but there are a couple of things I want to warn you about before you start reading my blog;
I am not a blogger. I don't fancy myself a writer. I don't think I am an overly witty person. and I am a horrendous speller. but I do have (what I assume can only be) a fairly interesting couple of months coming up. and I have been persuaded by my friends and loved ones to document them in blog form...so here it goes!
I have recently signed on, and begun rehearsals for a touring children's theater company that will be doing one hell of a tour this fall. 5 classic stories compacted into a 2 hour show that we put on every morning, 5 days a week, every week, thru december...all over the country.
the set up:
the cast is small- only 5 people- with 3 techies, and one director. the company we're touring with has been around a while and is a well oiled machine. so, there is a very specific vibe to the show. so year after year, the blocking never changes, the lines never change, the set never changes, the costumes never change, and the interpretation never changes. this apparently, has proven to be a success. this also leaves little wiggle room for an actor to come up with something new, but we have been assured it can be done.
now while I’m in boston for the rehearsal period, I am staying in the dorchester area (think my old neighborhood in prospect heights, brooklyn without the charm). it's close to the rehearsal space, and very affordable. it's what I’d call a rooming house, and owned by a sweet woman by the name of crystal. she rents space out to actors specifically from this acting company, but until the other tours start arriving, it's just me for now.
so far everyone's getting along, and the process is running smoothly...but it's early yet. we shall see what five months does to 5 people on the road in a van...when people stop being polite, and start getting real. ;)
